She had never seen a place for which nature had done more, or where natural beauty had been so little counteracted by an awkward taste. -- Pride & Prejudice, Jane Austen
Perhaps it is a bit presumptuous to use these lines which describe the great estate of Pemberly, yet this line from Pride & Prejudice so well describes this wonderful property at 1151 Clinch Road near Great Falls in Fairfax County, Virginia and within the Langley school district.
The house itself is set well back on the 2.16 acre lot (that's 94,101 sq. ft.) affording a beautiful view of the long front yard and private wooded side and rear yards. The views are ensured as part of the property borders Fairfax County park land.
In the Spring, the yard comes alive with dozens of trees in bloom including large dogwood (both pink & white!), tulip popular, locust, several varieties of maple, wild cherry, crab-apple and many more. Dozens of azaleas in a wild palette of colors grace the property along with hundreds and hundreds of blooming bulbs including tulips, daffodils, crocuses, hyacinths, and irises. The ground creepers put in a show as well including lily-of-the-valley, pachysandra, and periwinkle. There are many more bloomers not mentioned here but add to the riot of spring color.
And then there is late Spring and Summer when the landscape changes but has an equal beauty. The roses begin to bud and bloom, the crepe myrtle is beginning to stand out, the profusion of day lillies jostle for position and have their show for weeks on end. There are asiatic lillies, dahlias, purple coneflower, and self-seeding impatiens to delight with their sunny colors. In the shady areas you'll find big leaf hosta. Of course, all the trees will have leafed out and these include several varieties of oak, maple, popular, elm, locust, sycamore, and dogwood. Let's not forget the garden! There is a 30' x 30' fenced garden area large enough to satisfy the vegetable and flower gardener. After a day at work or working around the yard, the heated, in-ground pool refreshes and rejuvenates. Many a lunch and dinner has been spent poolside enjoying the beauty of the pool and its surroundings.
With the coming of Fall, the landscape changes and presents a new view. The crepe myrtle finishes its blooming, the perennial mums make a show, balloon flowers and roses continue the flower parade, and before long the leaves on the trees begin to change colors. The reds, oranges, and yellows are an amazing sight. And a little surprise greets the visitor by the front door in the form of a beautiful white camelia bush.
Even though the leaves are gone, the flowers dormant, there is still much beauty to behold in Winter. For those who would rather take refuge indoors, a cozy stone fireplace in the large family room beckons.
At 1151 Clinch Road, you will find a house and property that combined create an inviting and relaxing space -- a place to truly call home.
